A new building built by Johns Hopkins with upper level student housing, retail, and meeting space. The tournament will be held in the 3rd floor banquet hall. The entrance is off of 33rd street. There is free Wi Fi, and a Barnes and Noble and Starbucks on the ground floor. Here is a map to nearby places to eat.

Prizes

This tournament will pay prizes based solely on your final score. All the prizes are guaranteed. If the total pay out in the Open section is less than $1500, extra money will be added to the pay out of the top score group to bring the total to $1500.

Advantages over place-based scoring

Less Waiting
Your score determines your prize. Once you finish your last game, you can receive a check.
Less Uncertainty
Your prize does not get lowered if others tie with you. For example, if there are two 5-0 players, both receive the full amount for 5-0.
Less short draws
The total payout is always higher when games are decisive.

Unrated may enter any section, but may not win over $100 in U1100, $200 U1300, $300 U1500, $400 U1700, $500 U1900, or $600 U2100.  Balance goes to player(s) with same score or is divided amoung players in next lower score group.

Special Entrance Fees

Under 1100 section: all entrance fees $40 less
Free entrance to GMs. $50 will be subtracted from any prizes.

Mailed registrations should include name, section, schedule(2-day or 3-day), and if wanted, payment for rooms at the Charles Commons for Friday or Saturday at $48 per night. 3-day schedule: Reg ends Fri 6 pm, rds 7 pm, 11-6, 9-3:30.
2-day schedule: Reg ends Sat 10 am, rds.11-2:30-6, 9-3:30.
Half point byes: all, limit 2, Open must commit before rd 3

Reentries: all, $90 except U1100 $45

Hotel Rates $48 per night!

We have negotiated a very low rate for players to stay at the Charles Commons. Each room is a single room with two rooms sharing a living room, kitchen and bath. The number of rooms is limited. The $48 rate increases to $60 after 5/20. So make your reservations early.

Parking Information

Parking for the tournament will be in the Hopkins South Garage. You can enter the garage off of Wyman Park drive between Art Museum Drive and San Martin Drive. The daily rate is $10 for commuters and $7 for people staying at the Charles Commons. People staying at the Charles Commons should purchase their parking with their registration.
