We have updated the sweet 16 Standings through the Dumbarton Scholastic. A total of 25 players have played in at least one tournament so far. This gives us enough players to list the six with the highest ratings. The six with the highest March supplement ratings who have played in at least one tournament will qualify. The next 10 slots will be awarded to the players with the most rally points.

The first two sweet 16 rally sections did not have a high number of players. So far only 13 players have played in at least one tournament. We have at least two more Rally sections, Dumbarton, and Liberty Christian. Boonsboro may have one too but I don't know the format. |

The MCA approved changes to the qualification method for the
2009 Sweet 16.
The Sweet 16 is an invitational tournament for the top scholastic
chess players in Maryland. It is played at the University of
Maryland Baltimore County on the second weekend in March.
The winner of the tournament receives a four-year scholarship
to UMBC!
The goal of these changes is to balance the two
goals of both having the strongest Maryland scholastic chess
players qualify for the tournament and to encourage play in
Maryland scholastic chess events.
